Champion Plantation Surfcoast Shutters are the essence of timeless style and sleek function to complement your interior and décor. However when first ordering a shutter the terminology and construction can be one of the most daunting aspects of the process. Once you have an understanding of the various elements and what their uses are, you will feel far more at home planning and designing how you would like your project to look.
A shutter will always have a top and bottom rail, these are the horizontal solid parts of the shutter. They will be made in proportion to the height of the shutter. They will be made in proportion to the height of the shutter to ensure the best structural integrity. With taller panels a mid-rail will need to be added. This is another solid horizontal crossbeam of your panel, effectively splitting the slats into two independent groups. Where this is placed depends on the slat size and stile size. The stiles are the vertical solid bars of the panel. These come in a 35 mm or 51 mm wide variant, depending on the height, to ensure a sturdy construction.
Slats:
47 mm slats – the smallest slat offered, and generally only suitable for very small windows due to their limitations as they restrict the most amount of light into a room.
64 mm slats – these are the most popular sized slat. They give a clear and unobstructed view when tilted at a 90 degree angle, and suit average window sizes up to French doors.
89 mm slats – the second most popular size. Giving a slightly more modern look and allowing more light into the room, these slats are well suited to an open sky look.
114 mm slats – these slats are generally used as a design statement with large windows or doors where their size is proportional to the extent of the opening.
